Weingut J. Neus
24 January 2020
Weingut J. Neus is a winery found in Imperial surroundings. Literally. In 1881 Josef Neus founded a winery in the more than a thousand years old town Ingelheim in Rheingau. Ingelheim was then, as now, known as a red wine producing town originally adorned with a castle by Emperor Charlemagne (742(?)-814). Today, the town is still well worth a visit for wine- and history enthusiasts alike. Not least due to the reawakened J. Neus winery, which has been competently spurred in a new direction by Christian Schmitz, Daily Manager Lewis Schmitt, and Cellar Master Julien Meissner since 2012, when Christian purchased the winery. The good old Josef Neus was a pioneer of his time, known for developing and exporting his own red wine clone, and we are only hopeful for the future of this relatively new constellation of Christian, Lewis, and Julien.
Our tasting with Christian last year only entice our future curiosity:
