Meyer-Näkel from the Frühburgunder/Spätburgunder region Ahr dates its name back to 1950. Right from the beginning they have been producing dry red wines and do particularly well in Spätburgunder. They have plots in the famous vineyards of Walporzheimer Kräuterberg, Neuenahr Sonnenberg, and Dernauer Pfarrwingert. The winery also has vineyards in South Africa from which it blends cuvées from for example Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. They have also made a collab wine 'Hand im Hand' with Weingut Klumpp in Baden on the basis of a marriage between the two houses.
The winery is currently run by the sisters Dörte and Maike who took over from their father Werner. We tasted a range of their wines and here is how we scored them.
