Founded in 1750 by Simon Verry, Chanson Père & Fils is one of the oldest of Beaune’s good négociants. The Chansons' took control during the 19th century with a background from owning plots in Beaune, Savigny and Pernand. The company was sold to Bollinger in 1999 and in 2002 they appointed Gilles de Courcel as CEO and Jean-Pierre Confuron as winemaker.
Beginning with the vineyards which are now ploughed and no longer fertilised, the new team has made major improvements and the domaine vineyards are now organic. 50% of the stems are used for their reds and the wine is vinified using 100% whole clusters to extract a deeper colour and enhance the structure and aromatic complexity. The majority of their wines, from Village to Grand Cru, see about 30% new oak during maturation giving a unique opportunity to compare the terroir across the range.
